Discovered in 1911 by chemist Casimir Funk, thiamin, also known
as vitamin b1 is a
water-soluble vitamin that is a base. The salts of thiamin, thiamin
hydrochloride and thiamin mononitrate, are the forms of thiamin
which are most commonly used in nutritional and dietary food
supplements. In addition to being known as vitamin B1, thiamin is
known as thiamine, aneurin, and 3-[(4-amino-2-methyl-5-pyrimidinyl)
methyl]-5-(2-hydroxyethyl)-4-methyl-thiazonium.
